Celebrating entrepreneurs who create social, environmental and economic values
Five social entrepreneurs were honoured with the second Surya Nepal Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award (SNASEA) amid a function today.
Shanti Shakya Dolma, Chiranjivi Poudel, Dr Bishal Dhakal, Prachanda Shakya and Jasmaya Pun bagged the awards for their innovative business ideas. Social entrepreneurs Govinda Ghimire, Tara Baskota Adhikari and Som Prasad Gauchan were also felicitated for their decade long contribution to society.
The award — the first ever award to recognise Nepali social entrepreneurs, who create value for ‘People, Planet and Profit’ — was conceived to celebrate the hidden heroes for their great initiatives and to showcase their ventures. The winners were selected from among 84 applicants.
According to Surya Nepal, Dolma bagged the award for her contribution to natural dyeing techniques. Similarly, Poudel was honoured for providing jobs to blind people, and Dr Dhakal for creative health solutions. Shakya was honoured for transferring traditional arts and crafts technology to youths, and Pun bagged the award for her creative use of Allo in garments.
The first Surya Nepal Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award in 2011 saw five social entrepreneurs being recognised for their exemplary work along with 20 ideas being showcased at the bazaar and enthusiastic participation in the seminars.
Sponsored by Surya Nepal, supported by National Business Initiative (NBI) and organised by ChangeFusion Nepal, SNASEA 2012 also featured an additional recognition — The ‘NBI Agent of Change’ — for businesses that support enterprise development and ignite startups in the country.
