Celebrating entrepreneurs who create social, environmental and economic values
The second edition of the Surya Nepal Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award (SNASEA) will be distributed on December 18, organisers said today. The award — conceived as the first ever award to recognise Nepali social entrepreneurs, who create value for ‘People, Planet and Profit’ — is not only to celebrate the hidden heroes for their great initiatives but also to showcase their ventures and the impact they have made, according to Kiran Chitrakar, one of the jury members of the award nomination committee.SNASEA rewards and recognises extraordinary achievements of ordinary people and encourages others to follow their examples in society, said the organisers.
The objective of the award is to promote social entrepreneurship and the ideas behind it through identifying, awarding and exposing leading social entrepreneurs, fostering a community and exchange of leading social entrepreneurs, establishing a network of supporters — mentors, finance institutes, market linkages, business services — to support and scale up existing ideas, and creating awareness among the public to promote existing ventures and to inspire/motivate others to follow, they said. The first Surya Nepal Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award in 2011 saw five social entrepreneurs being recognised for their exemplary work along with 20 ideas being showcased at the Bazaar and enthusiastic participation in the seminars.
“Likewise, this year too, we continue with recognising, re warding and supporting social entrepreneurs all over Nepal through the three days of the Bazaar and seminars and the award ceremony,” according to the organisers. The Bazaar — on October 46 — brought some 60 social entrepreneurs from across Nepal, their customers, investors, advisors and mentors on one platform aimed for ‘transaction and transformation’, where they exchanged ideas, interacted and learned.
Similarly, a seminar series on November 22 catered to the needs of aspiring and existing social entrepreneurs and potential investors. SNASEA 2012 invited applications/nominations from all over the country, receiving 84 in total from 13 zones and 29 districts out of which 15 finalists have already been selected.
On December 18, the award ceremony will celebrate five winners, along with all other individuals, who dedicate their lives to positive change.
Sponsored by Surya Nepal, supported by National Business Initiative (NBI) and organised by ChangeFusion Nepal, SNASEA 2012 also features an additional recognition — The ‘NBI Agent of Change’ — for businesses that support enterprise development and ignite startups in the country. The new recognition will honour established businesses for their outstanding initiatives in supporting the culture of entrepreneurship in the country. The recognised businesses and their initiatives are the ambassadors of the private sector in establishing its role as a major contributor to the growth of entrepreneurial culture in the country.
NBI Agent of Change wants to demonstrate the reality that businesses have a huge role to play in developing responsible entrepreneurship.
