MR. BAL K. JOSHI, THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX AND INFUSING IDEAS (11 AM – 1 PM)

He is the co-founder and managing director of Thamel.Com. With an experience of over 10 years in entrepreneurial sector operating trading businesses in Nepal and North America and expertise in business development, marketing, and business operations and systems development, Mr Joshi will have lots of ideas to share on how one can transform ideas into action.

TRAINING AND WORKSHOP ON DRAFTING AN EFFECTIVE BUSINESS PLAN (2 PM – 5:30 PM) 

MR. ALEX SHRESTHA:
An architect, urban planner and an expert in business management, Alex Shrestha is the Managing Director at Wonaw & Associates and also a faculty member for Project Management at ACE Institute of Management. His specialties include Innovative Design, Project Management and Business Development and International Business & Finance.

MR. HERMANN RUNE:

Hermann Rune is the Senior Advisor at Rural Microfinance Development Center in Nepal which facilitates wholesale lending to MFIs. Besides, it provides institutional capacity building supports to its partner Micro Finance Institutions and plays other necessary roles for promotion and development of microfinance sector in the country. He is also the Country Representative of Savings Banks Foundation for International Cooperation, a joint organisation of the Savings Banks Finance Group in Germany.

MR. ANIL CHITRAKAR, THINKING INNOVATIVELY (11 AM – 12:30 PM)

A noted architectural heritage expert, social entrepreneur, and cultural historian, Anil Chitrakar is a well-respected scholar, speaker, and writer on social, political, and environmental issues in Nepal and also an Ashoka Fellow. He strongly believes that social projects should be designed for economic, social, and environmental sustainability and that systemic change happens only if local communities embrace and drive it themselves.

An expert in Marketing Strategy, Mr. Laishram Buddha Singh is the Vice President of Surya Nepal Private Ltd.

 

SUVASH THAPA AND SUDEEP BHAJU, BRANDING AND SELLING (11 AM – 12:30 PM)

Suvash and Sudeep are working with BEED Management, an international management consulting and financial advisory services firm based in Nepal. They have an array of services which include Beed Invest – Nepal’s first operational portfolio management company, Nepal Economic Forum (NEF) – a not-for-profit foundation for economic policy, education and research, Beed Leadership Center (BLC) with leadership development including coaching and then Business Oxygetn (BO2), a fund management company for International Finance Corporation (IFC) Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Venture Fund.

With over 10 years of experience in business management and entrepreneurship in the Information technology, in particular, web technologies sector, Ujwal Thapa is the founder of Digital Max Solutions (DMS), Entrepreneurs for Nepal, a strong entrepreneurs group of Nepal, and dmslist.com, an online jobs listing website popular in Nepal. He is also the Chief Entertainment Officer at exoticbuddha.com (a social travel portal for Nepal and Tibet).

SAURABH RIJAL, ACCOUNTING, MONEY AND ITS MANAGEMENT (1 PM – 2:30 PM)

With specialities in Investment Consulting, Business Planning and Analysis, Accounting, Management, Saurabh Rijal is the Director of Saadhya Pvt. Ltd., a consulting and outsourcing firm and advisor on business management and financial strategy.

DR. ASHESH AMBASTA, SUCCESS STORIES: BEYOND BORDERS (1 PM – 2:30 PM)

Dr. Ashesh Ambasta is the Vice President and Head, Social Investment Program, ITC Limited, India. ITC has been involved in initiatives like the globally recognised ‘e-Choupal program’ which is the world’s largest rural digital infrastructure benefiting over 4 million farmers and ‘ Social and Farm Forestry initiative’ which has greened nearly 96,000 hectares, creating an estimated 43 million person-days of employment among the disadvantaged. 

KUNDA DIXIT, MEDIA & PROMOTION (3 PM – 4:30 PM) 

Kunda Dixit has been the Asia-Pacific Director of the Inter Press Service from 1990 to 1996 and Director of the Panos Institute South Asia from 1997 to 2000.  He is the Founder, Editor and Publisher of the Nepali Times, and Co-publisher of Himal magazine.

SHABDA GYAWALI, GATHERING INVESTMENT (3 PM – 4:30 PM)  

Shabda Gyawali is the Investment Manager at Dolma Impact Fund, the first commercial impact fund ring-fenced for Nepal providing growth capital to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). He has been working toward tackling poverty in South Asia through entrepreneurial approaches.

GYAN SHAKYA, LEGAL AND GOVERNANCE (3 PM – 4:30 PM)    

A law graduate from Tribhuwan University and seasoned banking lawyer with varied experience, Mr. Gyan Shakya is an Associate Banking Lawyer and has worked as an in house lawyer of Nepal Bank Ltd for more than fifteen years.  His experience as a legal officer in one of the biggest bank of Nepal remains the greatest asset for advisory services in relation to credit and recovery matters.

Steven Lee, LGT VENTURE PHILANTHROPY, KOREA 

Steven Lee graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology and finished INSEAD MBA in the hopes of changing the world. He has served as a CFO of a social enterprise and is currently directing the impact venture accelerator program in LGT Venture Philanthropy, which tries to invest in social enterprise in the form of philanthropy. He has analyzed more than 100 social enterprises for investment feasibility and is now in NEPAL to invest in innovative social ventures.

Biruwa Ventures provides an entrepreneurial atmosphere for sharp and driven individuals to interact, and the space to share and nurture their ideas into sustainable ventures. Aiming to professionally and profitably assist start-ups and entrepreneurs in Nepal they recently launched the Udhyami Seed Fund Challenge 2012 encouraging young people to look at entrepreneurship as a potential career opportunity. Biruwa also connects entrepreneurs with avenues for funding and provides other essential services required for their business to prosper and grow.
